Oh No!, not another gallery

OT: Sandbox YAK

Well, the downturn of the economy has finally come home. The Artisan Center of Virginia's gallery has temporary closed it's doors. I picked up my stuff yesterday. Just last summer, they were enjoying record sales, now almost nothing. A gallery over the mountains also closed down in January and the gallery up at the ski resort requires a monthly fee so she can make business costs.

Bummer

Hi Gerald,
Sorry to here about things slipping down.It seems to be a way of life in Michigan. Munising has historically experienced a kind of flat line economy with smaller rises and falls, but there are still lay-offs. Our city leaders are finally coming to realize that the art community is good for our town's survival.History and culture seems to be the American small town's salvation. Ride the wave brother.

Thanks for the words of

Thanks for the words of support, but I have to confess. I'm actually doing fine. While I kept stuff in the gallery, I used the gallery more for advertising as most of my work is commissions. For whatever reason, things in my forge have been fine, nothing big, but good steady work. I do feel sorrow for those in my area that do depend on the galleries for sales.
