Intellectual and creative property issues are important to people like us who make their living through art and craft. The Keystone Art & Culture Center is hosting a workshop by an expert in Copyright law for artists. He will present the current laws and take specific questions from the audience. Important terms these days are "work for hire" (watch this one, as your clients may end up owning part of your copyright) and "fair use" - this one may permit others to use your concept in some way - for instance the recent use of an AP photograph by the artist who created the Obama campaign HOPE image poster - a direct recreation of the AP photo. Here is a recent railing I fabricated for the last living direct descendant of the famous sculptor Max Kalish. The rail is titled ' After Max' as it is designed from a bronze sculpture that Max created. His son commissioned the rail. Max's sculptures are seen worldwide in major collections of sculpture. Max was a WPA sponsored artists whose works a definitive look at the American worker - the laborer. The bronze that this piece closely represents is titled 'The Stoker' 7 min video on casting at KeystoneArt.org
