Idyllwild brooches

Jewelry | |

I created 5 brooches for exhibit at the Idyllwild Exhibition Center during the Metals Week workshops. I also took a brooch made for an exhibit in New York a few years ago. I was thrilled to have sold 4 of the six brooches during the exhibition.

Here are two of the 5 shown.

Frank,

This theme is one I have been exploring for years. There is so much variety that cab be created using this format. I have thought of expanding the scale to make much larger sculptural pieces in copper or bronze.

Thanks for the compliments.

Fred,
WOW! is right! That's a great piece. I like how you suspended the ball, or crystal-what is it? It looks great. If you were to make a larger one what size are talking about?

Thanks for the compliment Jamie. The ball is a hemitite bead. If I were to make it larger I would probably look at makeing these pieces 36" x 36".

Bigger is not necessarily better

These are really fine pieces at this scale Fred, but I suspect that they might need a bit more detail and variety of materials if you were to work at 3 feet diameter. I love the contrasts and sleekness of your workmanship and concept. The use of Hematite is a low-key emphasis point and, by substitution of other focii, you know you can express this concept with greater punch. I see turquoise as a focal bead and of course that would take you toward the Southwest Market where you would shine as a beacon among those clouds of generic work. Think Sedona, Arizona where money flows like water.

Brooches

Hi Fred,

I really like your brooches. The contrast between the textured & smooth areas is striking. The textured areas almost look like stone!
