Wedding Roses

| |

My son and his fiancee asked me to make two roses for their wedding ceremony. The rose flowers are made from an old 1 1/2" copper fire protection line. The stems are from discarded metal rods used to stretch painting canvas in a turn of the century home near Detroit. The leaves are a heavy gauge steel from a wood stove. The stand is from an old parlor chair. The branch stems are from a political poster and a spring from an old ottoman. The flower petals are held using a NEW stainless screw and nut. The roses are joined near the root. There are pickers and bumps and missing leaves, scars, rust and dis-colorization from deposits on the copper. The beauty is suppose to come from the union of all the components, like a good marriage.

Nice job on the flowers. The old standard wedding phrase of
something old, something borrowed, something new, something blue seems to fit here. You have everything here except the blue (not counting the Avatar). May the kids miss out on any days that are blue. Hopefully the marriage will last as long as your flowers. Nice job Pappa Frank,

Rain or Shine

Hi Lin,
Thank you.I enjoyed making the roses but was relieved upon their completion.I made a stake, that is to be pounded in the ground with the main stem fitting over, for the outside ceremony. The stand you can see is for a rainy situation and brought inside. Mike is our youngest(27) and the last to marry.

How could they not like them?

Wonderful job on the roses Frank.Easy to see all the craftsmanship and love you put into them.I`m sure they will be a source of pride for them both.
Congrats are in order,Pappa Frank.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice.
In practice there is.

Energy

Hi Daedalus,
Thank you.Making the rose flower was a new challenge.I made some other roses from thinner sheet and the flowers from the thin sheet look much more realistic, but the scale was wrong.I made a crude veining die for the leaves.I'm so happy to be able to hand make a gift. You can feel an energy build as the sculpture goes together.Life is good...
