|

Today I made six small stumps to prepare for a work shop on metal shaping.Old Faithful makes seven.I was going to make them all a simple bowl cavity, but my evil twin"Da Wood Butcher" made me make each one different.

Yeah evil twin!

Just Seven?

Frank,
Nice set of stumps, what kind of wood did you use? And why did you stop at just seven? grin
I will take a set too.

Maple

Hi Warren,
Gotta start small. I'm experimenting with a sheet metal shaping workshop trying to keep the cost down as it is a free event. I bought six cheap hammers.I'm going to supply everyone with a few basic shapes of .032 mild steel to hammer. We'll make some patterns too. The stumps are seasoned Hard Maple around 5-6 inches across. The boards attached to the stumps are Black Ash.

Peace

Hi andy,
I've got some Ironwood stashed away for a medium sized stump. It has some great knots for convex shapes.Every once in a while its nice to butcher da firewood with something beside a eight pound splitting mall. However I fully realize the therapeutic value of splitting wood on a daily basis;five to eight blocks all split up makes me a peaceful person.

The workshop sounds great

The workshop sounds great Frank, wish I was closer. I'd love to learn a little bit about your styles and techniques.

Who's on first?

Hi Jake,
Its all about growth,eh? I actually had to cancel this workshop because of some urgent medical issues. It will happen, just a different date.
I initiated a program called "Citizen Reach" that extends the reach of existing services by implanting them in local community structures. We've had healthy cooking classes, self defense classes for seniors, I have a garden expert joining in , a dance class, a machinist workshop, and even a first responder class coming up.Everything is free of charge. The quality of presenters has been top drawer and the knowledge base of the participants has made it an environment where everyone is learning. My biggest challenge so far is to actually reach those who are needy, they have interests that pretty much keep them away from learning events, perpetuating their situation.
If you were able to attend,Jake,it would make the event special indeed, a whole lot of learning would be going on. Hey, someday right?
Peace,eh
Frank
