Tin Chicken

Yikes! I was in a local Menards store and they had a tin chicken for $20. It was maybe 20 gauge steel, or thinner, and painted all up. The thing was around 20 inches tall. I feel threatened.I don't want to make a rooster now.

I am sure after seeing your raven your chicken would be lots better looking than the $20 one at Menards. I love the raven.

Freaked

Hi Jimmy,
Thanks. It just freaked me out.It reminded me of those sheet metal toys, we had as post WWII kids.

Why?

Frank Here's an analogy. Every grocery store here in Florida sells fish sticks. That doesn't stop people from going to fine seafood restaurants, In fact it probably encourages people to try the finest available. Menards in this case is just increasing the public's consciousness of your subject. Thoughts Brad

Frank, I had a similar

Frank, I had a similar reaction when several of the plant nurseries I supply started stocking those light-weight metal things from Africa and Asia. Prices for something 3' tall are around $100ish.
My work of similar size was priced around $1000, but strangely sales didnt drop. I think the store owners sell a lot of the crap, but there are still plenty of customers prepared to pay for quality, original local art.

So....Bring on the Chicken of Steel!

Frank, I have a Barbed wire Rooster that would eat the Menards chicken for lunch, I agree with Peter.

Buy Local

Jimmy, Brad, Rob, Peter,
Thanks for the hopeful statements.I just missed giving the Raven a new home today.... so close. Perhaps with some exposure these birds will leave the nest before summer is over.I finished the Bigfoot sculpture for the Moose Lodge today.Someone else is making the wood base and brass plaque.
I'll be starting another bird tomorrow with some strange twists.
