Casting aluminum Hello. Can anyone help me, or tell me how do they remove the slag from molten aluminum? Do they use the same procedure as when casting bronze ? And If you add anything before pouring the molten metal into the mold? When I cast bronze I add some borax and some phosphor-copper, and after that pour it into the mold. Thanks for the reply. Ps. Learned how to TIG weld bronze. ![]() Thanks for the reply, and

Thanks for the reply, and I'll try that part with the glass and post the results. |

Aluminum slag removal has
Aluminum slag removal has never been a problem here so not sure what is going on in your crucibe.
Melting old scrap? If so (and I do that 99 % of the time), just scrape it off.. though yours may be due to not heating it quite enough to get the higher melting aluminum alloys to be melted yet so may be appearing to be making more slag than is appropriate. (again a ???) Or another option would be to add a piece of glass from a broken bottle to the melt. Same as with bronze. The glass will melt into a gummy mass that floats on bronze and then stick to or adhere to the slag that is floating. That mass is easier to remove. It is also a vehicle to seal the metal off from the future crap found via melting gases. bpfink
