polishing aluminium

Casting |

Hello !

I don't know if this is the best group for me to post my problem here, but I'll do it any way.
Could anyone tell me something about polishing aluminium? Is it the same procedure as in polishing bronze ? (first I ''sand'' it, and than use sand papers to the 1200 and than polish with a cream and cloth), the results are a clean, polished surface, just like a mirror.

thanks, and safe casting.

sound right to me but I

sound right to me but I would use ruge and a polishing wheel, but that would depend on how big the pieces are

I agree with Matt that

I agree with Matt that you're on the right track. The only thing I might add is that since aluminum is so soft, you can jump grits much faster. I just did a maquette out of aluminum and went from 120 grit flapper disc to 360 grit hand sand to emory polishing compound and it turned out pretty good. I wasn't looking for a perfect finish and you could see some scratch marks from the sanding when you were up close, but it turned out very shiny for the most part. Hope this helps.

Yeah, It did help. Thanks

Yeah, It did help.

Thanks for the information, now I'll just wait until the week end to do the polishing since I have no time during the week because of the school.

Thanks.
