I agree with Matt that you're on the right track. The only thing I might add is that since aluminum is so soft, you can jump grits much faster. I just did a maquette out of aluminum and went from 120 grit flapper disc to 360 grit hand sand to emory polishing compound and it turned out pretty good. I wasn't looking for a perfect finish and you could see some scratch marks from the sanding when you were up close, but it turned out very shiny for the most part. Hope this helps. sound right to me but I would use ruge and a polishing wheel, but that would depend on how big the pieces are
