Great design, it has a nice flow and clean lines, it even captures a feeling of movement.
Keep up the fine work!

first of all Thanks Jake!!!!

This piece is being made as a support for some bookshelves Walter built for us years ago....and I never got around to making the support piece. But he's happy because he loves it.
There will be quite a bit more of the "leaves going on" and they will have stained glass added to them. This piece will be patinated, with a rich bronze color...
Maybe I will finish it up this weekend....
Also have some big news brewing, but I can't discuss it yet!

Stained Glass

Hi SteelyJan,
I love how you incorporate stained glass. That should add a nice element to this work. I am planning on trying some glass with a reproduction of one my grand-daughter's drawings of a butterfly. Steel will represent the drawn lines and glass will represent where she colored in the wings with crayon. I'm excited about this project and inspired by you and Claire, my grand-daughter.

the "cat's eye" shape shows up frequently in your work.
does it have a special significance to you, the artist?

Cat's eye answer....

Hi Charley,
I have to admit not really, these are prefab pieces I buy for railings but their shape lends itself to so many venues.
I really love using them and adding glass only make it better.
My next post will have a dragonfly with the same pieces yet totally different...SteelyJan

thanks for the reply, Janet.
just want to say that i think you are an excellent designer,
some things that you have posted are so inventive...just great. like a broken record, i just want to say investigate
getting a small gas forge. not much money at all. a world
of shapes from inside your head will jump out of the flames.

Janet, I haven't been on

Janet, I haven't been on here for awhile.....can't seem to keep up with it on a regular basis. This is different than anything else I've seen you do and I LOVE it! I look forward to seeing it finished. I also need to keep coming back to see what's 'brewing' that you mentioned!!

Hi Kimberly

we miss you here on ArtMetal, how's the book going and when do I buy my autographed copy???? Hope all is well....

Hey Janet! Thanks for

Hey Janet! Thanks for that.....finally finally I have an actual advance copy of the book!! The publisher really did a beautiful job. One thing about it is that this book is intended to get beginners to start to play with mig welding.....it will not satisfy those that are very picky about 'perfect welds'. My feeling is that there is a place for doing exacting, high quality craftsmanship.....and for just playing, with the emphasis being on creativity. My book is definitely intended for the latter! It will be on the shelves in May......I'll figure out how to sell autographed copies!! (On the acknowledgements page I thanked all the ArtMetal folks for helping!)
