Yow!

Hey Jake, beautiful maquette. If that doesn't wow 'em, nothing will. I'm sure you'll get the commission. Very nice.

Hi Jake Interesting design.

Hi Jake

Interesting design. Do you have the job, or is this just the submission? What materials are you planning to use. Are the pieces hollow forms, or curved flat metal?

Peter

Thanks Peter, I won the commission and should be signing contracts in the next month or so. The shapes are hollow forms out of 12 ga stainless steel and they will have an electropolished finish. Should be nice and shiny. :)

Hmmmm....how will you

Hmmmm....how will you produce the curved surfaces so front and back match? A press?

Peter

Congrats!

Thanks Peter, the pieces

Thanks Peter, the pieces will be laser cut and then rolled to create the curved shape. The curvatures don't have to be exact, just close. The sides taper from 4" at the bottom to 1" at the top and will be custom fitted to each piece, taking care of any discrepancy between the front and the back. That's the plan anyway.

Reflections

Hi Jake,
The concave reflective surfaces should delight people as the surroundings are sent back.

Thanks Frank, just one of them would probably be enough to keep me interested, but 10 in a circle should bounce images, light, and reflection all over. I hope it turns out as good as you and i imagine.

Awesome Jake! It's really coming to life! I wish all the best with this piece and more!

BTW, it looks like I'll be going to see Chihuly very soon. I'm looking in to flights into San Fransisco, and all the other arrangements.

Cheers,

Nice

Jake,
Just catching up on some of the posts. Hey very nice maquette and very cool looking sculpture. I like the "petals" coming out of the ground. I guess all of the schooling that you have taken has paid off . The maquette looks so professional, but of course aren't we suppose to be. I do not think I could ever do one with the details that you have done, little benches and the flowers. great job!

Thanks Warren, I wasn't sure

Thanks Warren, I wasn't sure how detailed the maquette should be(this was my first one for a commission) so it might have been over kill. I do know that the panel really appreciated being able to see the sculpture in relation to it's surroundings. Except for the benches and sculpture the rest is just flower foam, model rail road vegetation/decoration, and plywood. Pretty low tech.

Wonderful Model Jake!

Your piece is beautiful within its landscape...good luck with your commission. This gives me the idea of how to make my model...I sure a lot of work was put into it. SteelyJan

Thanks Janet, I think it

Thanks Janet, I think it took me about 16 hours total, but it's well worth it. I learned a lot about the project just making the maquette.

How did the show go this weekend?

Thanks Jake

I got there at the tail end of it as I had a wedding to go to.
The work looks great in the gallery. And I saw people lovingly touching my work...I like that! The members of the gallery are so happy to have my work there...so that makes me feel great!
I broke my camera taking pictures...flew right out of my hands. Hopefully I can retrieve them. Bought a new camera...state of the art Olympus!! Looking forward to learning photography! Steelyjan
