Wow, Have you been busy!

Hi Jake,
I love your nature series. It seems as if you've been busy at work since we met....I'm totally jealous. I've been in a bit of a slump, kinda doodling around the studio and not accomplishing anything? Anyway, these pieces are wonderful. Were the animals and cutouts done with a laser or water jet cutter? I'm still using the stone age hand plasma cut method.Alittle slow....anyway congradulations. How was the reaction? janet R.

Thanks

Thanks Janet,
The pieces were laser cut to reduce costs. I would have preferred to hand cut everything just for the textures, but budgets are budgets. As for the reaction, they were just installed today, so I haven't had much feedback. The dedication is this sunday so we'll see. The one thing I noticed was how small they look next to giant trees. The pieces looked gigantic in my shop, then when they're up outside they look tiny unless there is something practical to use as a reference point. If I were to do it again, I would probably make them 1-2 feet taller and about 3 feet wider. Live and Learn.

Jake,
great series. Lots of detail, wonderful textures. Kudos on the designs. The Bison rox :)How tall are they? The great outdoors does have a way of diminishing stuff....

Thanks

Thanks Bill,

The pieces are 32" wide and 7'-8' tall depending on the piece. They get gradually taller. They definitely could have a more massive look when they are set in the open next to giant trees, but I think they'll be ok once the landscaping is in.

You commented that the

You commented that the grasslands should be wider. I would agree since a lot of your great workmanship overlaps each other and when viewed from the road would be lost. Your other pieces look great and readable from a distance. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing.

excellent

Jake,
Wow so much detail. Not sure where to start making compliments. Love the texture on all of the animals and plants. So many little pieces and all comes together so great.

Thanks Warren. The staff at the Nature Center gave me lots and lots of picts to use as references which helped a lot. Took a look at the photos of your work and was very impressed (you seem to focus on details yourself). I really like the bird baths, what are they made of?

WOW!
These are the most wonderful things I seen. I really like the theme. I would get lost in the sculptures and forget to visit the nature center.
Thanks for the pictures, Mele

It sure makes you want to

It sure makes you want to get out of the car and take a closer look, and maybe a picture. You have a great series.

Thanks Don, The lady in

Thanks Don,
The lady in charge of the Nature Center will be glad to hear that. One of the main purposes of the sculptures was to catch people's attention and have them stop to take a better look. They, of course, hope that they will continue on up to tour the nature center.

Thanks Mele, The main

Thanks Mele,
The main visitor to the nature center is kids(age3-14) so I did my best to provide ample images and textures to keep them interested. I think they'll look even better after they fully patina. I'll posts pics in a few months to show the progress. I like your work as well. The "Astors" is a sleek elegant piece and I love the colors. My favorite inspiration is floral plants. They are so organic, come in thousands of shapes, sizes and colors, and can be very simple or complex in composition. Seems like the possibilities are endless when you just look outside for ideas.
