I am thinking about doing a piece with a large river rock in a tight fitting, cage like setting. How do you weld the material in place with out chipping / discoloring the stone?

First you make the Damascus billet, then,
forge both blade and guard to shape,
grind w/ 60 grit, fit guard, grind w/ 120 grit, grind w/ 220 grit,

I like to mix different materials together in my art pieces. What problems have you had when mixing mild steel with copper – brass - bronze in any combination? What would you suggest to use as a barrier (if needed) for use outside/inside?
