Collaborative project by John Lindvay and David Barnhill 2008

collabcollabcollabcollabcollabcollabcollabcollabOk, here is another project that my friend John Lindvay and I recently finished. John has gotten into raising vessels lately, mostly small copper vessels and his last project was raised in sterling silver. At the start of the project he came to me and told me his ideas for a form unlike any other form he had ever raised. I started doodling. A few minutes later I had a decent sketch and I showed it to him to see if it would be something he would be interested in. We were both interested and here are the pictures of what we came up with. John did most of the raising and I raised when he was busy with other things. I chased and repoussed the container, made and added the handle, and we handled patination together. We hope that hope that you like it. The size of the project is: 4.35 inches wide x 6.25 inches tall x 6.25 inches deep.

Superb

David,

Once again you knock my socks of with your work. What a great vessel.

Beautiful vessel. I can just see you guys sitting on a log in the woods sharing by sips the finest brandy before a fire during a full moon with a naked lady playing a flute and dancing a soft slipper shuffle to dedicate the latest harvest. But then I guess you guys designed it with that intention, right?

cocoon

Compelling piece of work.

Thank you so much for showing the beginning idea/sketch.
i like to get a glimpse into the craftsman's mind.
adds to the pleasure of the final work.

Spectacular feeling in this vessel.

amazing work

Your work is so strong - the idea of cocoon or crysilis(sp?) is such a fundamental idea of container. I was looking at a book in the Smithsonian recently and was fasinated with pollen. Also the idea of complete sanctuary in your pieces is so compelling. I'm a printer and have never tried metalworking before but I have all these used metal plates and they are calling me. Sorry to digress, but just had to tell you yourwork is splendid. Linda Bosworth
