Whitesmithing | Artmetalists copper | tapering Hi, I am just going to throw this out there. I am trying to make a tapered stem from either copper tubing/pipe or sheet stock. I am trying to make Mushroom stems and I don't know of a good or correct way to do that. I have made a few and the problems that I have encountered are unsightly seams with sheet stock and I can't get enough taper with the pipe without splitting even though I am annealing through the process. I know that this is a elementary problem for some of the "Big Guns" on this site so I would love any suggestions that you could offer me on this problem. » read more | 13 comments Copper Suppliers

Whitesmithing | Repousse & Chasing | Artmetalists copper | supplier Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good copper supplier. I had been using Storm Copper but now they have stopped carrying the size that I always use. I need 12" wide by 25'-50' in length. I use 0.010 or 30ga. copper foil for a lot of my projects and was wanting another supplier if anyone knew of any. I could buy in 24" widths from Storm Copper and cut it in half with my bandsaw but it is Double the price for some reason for the same amount of copper. I need to order ASAP so any help would be GREATLY appreciated. » read more | 13 comments Copper Duck Sculpture

Whitesmithing | Repousse & Chasing | Artmetalists copper | metal | patterns Hi, I make a lot of flowers out of copper and have always created my own patterns through trial and error. I was wondering if anyone knew of a book or something where I could see some patterns of different flowers, objects, shapes ,etc. Is there such a program to where you can take a 3d shape or picture and flatten it out to get a cut pattern? Just wondering if everyone makes their patterns like I do or are you doing something different. » read more | 23 comments Bandsaw blade for copper

Whitesmithing | Artmetalists bandsaw | blade | copper | cutting Hi all, I have been trying to find a bandsaw blade for my vertical bandsaw and have not had any luck. I called my local metal supplier and he could not find what I needed either, so I was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere I could find what I am looking for. I am cutting 1" thick copper (about 25 30ga.sheets stacked)and I need a 1/4" blade 92"long with 6tpi. I am trying to cut out multiple patterns at once and the blade that I got from Lowe's just won't stand up to the job. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! » read more | 10 comments Polishing Copper

The client wanted a abstract sculpture of a swimmer so this is what my wife and I came up with. This was my first abstract piece and I am not sure if I like it or not. The client was very happy with it, so I guess that is all that matters. Let me know what you guys think and don't hold back because I can take constructive criticism, that's how we learn. » read more | 4 comments Commercial Patina Products for Copper

Whitesmithing commercial | copper | patina Hi All, I would like to start a discussion on Commercial Patina Products for Copper. I know that there have been a lot of post on this subject but I would like to have everyone's opinions and experiences with certain products. What product works best for you? There are so many products on the market now that I get very confused about which one I should order. There are also dyes and not ever seeing these in person is really hard to figure out what they look like. Are dyes better than traditional patinas? What is the best way to apply them? Hot or cold patina, cold or hot copper? What is the best way to clean your copper before adding the patina? Is one Pickle better than the other? What is the best clear coat to put on your project to keep the patina from flaking off? » read more | 12 comments |
