http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_pSjaMjq-A

In response to my sketch video of Beethoven , I received a commission to fire-paint on copper , the composer Mauro Giuliani .
This video outlines the process I used to do the study, for this portrait .

In this video I anneal a small scrap of copper to a dark grey , and use ink to lay in a few initial marks , for the sake of this demo . Usually I would go much larger / more detailed , and use solely brush and water ; there is an example of this technique too , near the end of the video .

Hi Collin,

I was wondering why the heating process for the copper is so important. I tried flame painting on a small piece in the shape of a butterfly which I still haven't completed, but all I did was heat my piece not to a red but just heat the piece, let it cool some then begin flame painting.

A look into some of the most basic techniques behind the art .

Prism of Copper

Copper colours bloom in a predictable manner . Using just a propane torch on a clean sheet , this is the order ; 1." copper colour " 2. Red 3. Purple 4. Blue 5. White 6. Yellow 7. Pink 8. Green 9.
