The Show Part 2

Well, Part 2 of the Show was Saturday it did not go so well.
I didn't sell anything, the Sculpture they broke last time, I fixed and added a larger Base.
But I did bring it down for the second Show whitch they Hid behind the Wine and food Table, NICE!
But you know I learned a lot.
I've learned so many things from this experience.
I know now how to deal with my stuff in the Future and I received some great Feedback.
So, I will stick to my game plan and just keep creating and someday, somehow I'll make this all work!
Thank you all here at Artmetal for your support! (Cause sometimes I need it)

Happy Holidays!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Chuck,

I think I'm with you on the whole "keep creating," thing... It seems that that is when I'm the most happiest, and seems the same for you.
I've spent so much time focusing on the marketing thing (which is important), but somehow forgot what was really important....creating from the heart. I plan on going back to Metal Sculpture in the new year, but must finish up some pieces before x-mas.

Anyway, I'm happy for you...it's not easy to put ones self out there. I think you've done well on the pieces you create, and I know you'll find your audience.

Cheers,

Merry Christmas!

Hi Chuck,
I'm sorry that things didn't work out as you would have liked them to.I appreciate that you have the guts to discuss it openly. That takes quite the measure of man.I'm confident that this facet of your character will be an avenue to creative expression.Stick with it brother.

Hi Frank,
It's no big deal, "you win some and you lose some."
All the same, this was a great lesson of the Gallery experience.

Hi Chuck, sorry the second

Hi Chuck, sorry the second part of the show didn't turn out so well. I'm positive though that the returns from the show are a lot more than you realize. Not only did you learn a lot about showing your work and dealing with galleries, but you tested a market and got a lot of exposure, which is fantastic. Exposure is everything in this business and is like a long term investment. It doesn't seem like much at first, but it starts to really add up over time without you even realizing it. Keep at it because at that point, any time a sculpture job is proposed in the area, your name will always come up. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for the reassurance.
I'm not bothered the lack of sales beleive it or not.
Again this was a great experience for me.
The few freind's I do have all came out to support me which meant the world to me.
So no matter what happened "I win!"
As far as exposure only time will tell.

Sorry it didnt work out the way you hoped Chuck. Just keep showing your work wherever you can. I've found that it can take a while for people to become accustomed to seeing a new artists work about the place before they start buying.

Hey Chuck,

I think most of us has been there too. Listen to what the Artmetal people are saying, it WILL turn around. I did a outside show where it rained all day long and I only sold one piece and that was to another vender. About a month later someone called me and commisioned me for a piece that saw me at the rainy show. The show was bad but the exposer was great so just keep doing what you are doing and it will all work out in the end, just takes time.

Thanks,
Copperjoe

Slow Show

Hello Chuck, Now you know why the Art Galleries get the percentages that they do. They have a lot more slow days than good days, and they have to pay someone to be there or man the gallery themselves. It's great to sell some work directly to a client and not have to pay a commission but it comes at a price. The price is your time, the time away from your art studio. This creative time pays you at your highest level of earning, and it is also the most rewarding.
I believe that every sculpture I make will sell someday, and as I look back it is true or atleast 90% of my work sells within 3 years of my creating it. You can pay people to sell your work and create twice as much sculpture, or you can spend half your time selling, and create half as much, it's up to you.
That's my two cents
Best regards,

Been There Too

Chuck yeah too bad but at least you have a positive attitude. What you do not want to do is get to the point that you are making things you think somebody will buy. Just keep being yourself and enjoy what you want to make. Believe it or not others out there will also enjoy what you do and be your customers.

Live and learn and progress...

Hi Chuck!!!!

take heart as your work is just getting better and better and you are progressing....and doing it!!! Just do it!!!
I've done so many shows ....so many different venues.
I used to do the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in NYC at the Jacob Javitz Center. This is a big ticket show....mucho dinero...I got a lot of press...etc...but no moohlah!! I did many high end craft shows...soemtimes I sold sometimes I didn't. I've been in some Craft galleries here in NYC and sold well but most of them are long gone!!! Then the commissions started and I stopped showing...but that's no good either. It's good to be in the public eye all the time...keep doing it , every opportunity you get...bring some wine...relax ...take it in!!! We (the force) are with you!!!

Hi Chuck, Should I say I`m

Hi Chuck,
Should I say I`m sorry for what happened to you or should I say I`m glad. When we say we`re sorry, well we mean to be supportive. If it`s for the better which I`m sure it will be so for you, then ironically I should say I`m glad and forget about being sorry. My God it`s all so relative! Your recent gallery experiences Chuck, are not uncommon you know.Hidding your sculpture behind the wine ... may appeared nasty, but if it`ll do you good then we may look at it differently. A friend of mine says there`s no such thing as being good or bad, it`s rather a matter of convinience. Of course most of us attend this sort of events with high expectations, and the higher they are, wham! it seems the harder we fall. It happens to me too, and to most artists I`d guess. There`ll always be a pleasing SOB willing to put our work behind some table. In all, keep going, do your thing, enjoy doing art, it will pay off when you least expected. Nelson.
