Just joined Etsy to sell handmade pieces

| | |

Thought I would share this even though I am not sure how many at ArtMetal know about Etsy but I stumbled on it through a blog from Seth Godin. It is a web site specifically designed where you can join and setup your own shop for handmade products. So even though I have my own web site with a virtual storefront where people can purchase designs I also just setup an Etsy shop since they can generate huge traffic from around the world.

If you don't have a web site with a virtual storefront to sell your handmade artisan pieces I suggest you check out the video about the site at http://www.etsy.com/about.php and see if would work for you. My belief is that whenever you can expose what you do it is worth it. They take care of the financial transaction to the sellers for you with a small fee for doing it.

What is your url for your store front with Etsy...I would like to check it out. I've wanted to set one up myself, but am torn because I already have a website and felt it would be a bit much to have more than one place to purchase online...it makes sense though to have a second place especially with the exposure.

I've tried the other "one," that you can sell pretty much anything on, and was really displeased by the amount of fees racked up, and hardly had any viewers, so I've shied away from Etsy thinking it may be the same...maybe it's not, and maybe this one is better???

Let us know how your experience is with it! I hope you do well!

Cheers,

Hi Jamie,

It is http://chromedome.etsy.com and with it only costing 20 cents to list an item for four months that is very low cost for exposure and potential customers/sales. When the item sells I have to pay a 3.5% transaction fee which is close to ebay anyways. What I like is it is targeted to people looking to buy handmade items instead of "crap" found on ebay.

Since starting it this afternoon and only having one item it has already had 7 views in 6 hours which is not bad traffic.

I will update how it goes over the next few months.
