Hi Matt, i ended up posting

Hi Matt, i ended up posting a comment on the image entry before i saw the blog. Nice work, the hammer looks great. I'm unfamiliar with a helve hammer, what is it used for, planishing, forging, or both. It kind of looks like a giant planishing hammer but with style.

Hi Jake, Well.... its best

Hi Jake,
Well.... its best for roughing out a piece of sheet (or beat the crap out of something realy fast) then you could use a planishing hammer to smooth it perfectly. its amazing how much time and effort it saves, when your used to just doing it by hand.
