Canaday Designs's blog

just finished

Hi all,
Just wanted to share a recently completed project. this is for a residence hear on the central coast california. about 35 lineal feet, sculpted and cast bronze posts, forged and riveted steel railings with a deep brown finish (c-22 and lots of water). Also the flower arrangements are of steel, copper, and brass. with a rose theme carried threw the project, even the tops of the rivets on the pickets are little tiny roses. pickets are pierced through bottom bar and swaged, tops are drilled and riveted. hidden connections are bolted through posts into a pre-flooring baring plate topped with the bronze rose caps. fun stuff, lots of work, and honored to have the opportunity.

pewter patina's ???

Hello all,
I'm looking for some natural patina recipies, and/or store bought products for application on pewter. I will be casting some pieces in pewter, in the past I have been able to get a black patina but I have no idea of any other 'colors' that may be posible through chemicals. any thoughts or solutions would be much apprieciated.

forging stainless ha ha ha

alright Guissepe I hope your out there somewheres.
never really forged stainless other than some small scrolls
I need to draw out some 1" solid round, to a point. did a test run using the forge and trip hammer, got the first heat OK went for the second heat, again to a cherry red, started drawing it in the trip hammer and it split in four sections, looked neat just not exactly what I had on the agenda. I am pretty sure its 304 grade stainless steel.
