OT: Sandbox YAK 10.000 hours. I heard about this again this summer. What was put forward is not simply doing something for 10.000 hours, but deliberate practice with a mentor or coach working with you. Here's a quote from an article in the Wall Street Journal: cast iron fusion welding flux

Art | Arts and Crafts | life | metal art | public art When I started out crafting things out of metal, I wasnt really amused. My psychiatrist told me that making metal art may be a good way of removing my panic attacks because in one side, the sheer sound of the clashing metal and the sparks flying totally induces the attack. But at the same time, tempered with the right attitude and the right thinking, I would be able to treat myself and snap out of it. Unsung heroes of the toolbox

Thought it might be fun to start a thread about favourite tools. Not big, expensive, high tech tools - on the contrary - I'm talking about the stuff you've picked up, made, or modified over the years and wouldn't want to have to do without....and yet rarely see in anyone else's workshop.....or it could be a tool that's in common use that you've found a completely new application for... Fabrication cones | flared | trunicated Hello All. I am new to the group. I am looking for help in die design. My work involves fabricating elevated water tanks. We press or dish our elliptical heads involving segemented pie shaped plates. We use the typical male over female die configuration checking both raduis with radius boards as the piece is pressed. I've been taking silversmithing classes and have finally decided to set up shop at home. However, I've run into some trouble. I bought an acetylene air torch and went to set it up as the welding supply store instructed me to. However, he had just told me how to set up the hose, not how to open the tank. I also never got the lil mini wrench thing to use on the pin. So when I called him, I tried some things he suggested and, when none worked, gave up. making punches
